Childhood/Early life
Tom Clancy was born on April 12, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the middle child of three. His mom worked hard to send him to a private Catholic school. He later graduated from high school in 1965. He then attended Loyola College, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelors degree in English Literature. His writing career started in 1982 when he started writing The Hunt For Red October. Two years in 1984 he sold it for publishing for $5,000. He sold it to The Navel Institute Press. Clancy originally wanted the book to sell 5,000 copies, and it ended up selling 45,000 copies right of the bat. Then President Ronald Reagan gave the book praise calling it " the best yarn". That praise boosted sales to 300,000 hard cover, and 2 million paperback copies. This book and his next four books became successful movies with famous actors, Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck.
